Ryan Reynolds GQ October 2010

Ryan Reynolds is probably one of the most unnoticeably well-dressed men in the entertainment industry.

Never do I hear about him in the media, nor have I seen him on a reality T.V show, which only makes Mr.Reynolds, a class act in my eyes. His fashion choices have also been effortlessly flawless, so it seems.

I have always found him to be consistent with his red-carpet choices as well.

Reynolds is on the cover of GQ for the October 2010 issue.

Here, his looks are clean, slick, and incredibly sexy.

Fellas, pay attention…

The looks the stylist created in this shoot are wearable for the everyday man.

On a budget? No problem, lots of stores carry trendy items at a fraction of the cost of high-end designers, try: J.Crew, Uniqlo, and Zara Men.

Music Loves Fashion: Dogus Cabakcor

Istanbul is the cultural city of the world… and in it is Dogus Cabakcor.
Dogus is Istanbul’s premier DJ, and his music is what keeps Istanbul’s elite dancing all night long.
First things first…how do I know him? Well, let’s go back…
Dogus has been a great friend to me for 3 years and due to the unfortunate part that we live in two different countries, let alone 2 different continents, is rough. But regardless, whether in person, or just via BBM (I know, it’s an addiction), our friendship does grow.

Dogus Cabakcor

This stylish DJ gets the nightlife of Istanbul going with his eclectic mixes and positive energy making him one of the most coveted DJ’s in not only the city, but the country.

Aside from spinning at hot spots in Istanbul, Dogus also played sets in Miami Beach, and will be spinning in the trendy resort town of Cesme, Turkey.

Dogus Cabakcor, who is the resident DJ for parties thrown by Melisa Cakarlar, has gained immense popularity by DJ’ing her events since 2008.

Spinning at a South Beach venue.

By travelling outside the city of Istanbul, he expands his clientèle by not only the Istanbul social scene (although, they tend to flock to his venues), but also the various cultures that are vacationing in the region.

With fans from all over the world, Dogus has made a name for himself, and unlike most DJ’s, he’s so confident in his sets, that he refuses to take requests. (He wouldn’t play “Alors on Danse” when I asked, that’s the sign of a skillful and confident DJ).

Dogus Cabakcor

Dogus recently DJ’ed the parties for ICONS OF FASHION, one of Istanbul’s most fashionable nights out.

He is currently DJ’ing Pool Parties at Hotel Les Ottomans, and will be doing it weekly bringing his sexy, funky house tunes to the party-goers as they sip their drinks and swim in an infinity pool overlooking the Bosphorus.

Who is Dogus Cabakcor?

(Biography Courtesy of Dogus Cabakcor, edited by Le Fashion Monster)

Recognized by widespread music lovers, Dogus Cabakcor has garnered popularity from his performances at private parties held at venues like; W Lounge, Lucca, Ulus29 Lounge, and Fashion Circus.

Dogus expresses his emotions through his music, and his sets are based on those of; happiness, love, sadness, melancholy, anger, rage, old and new…
His listeners are drawn into a realm of innovation with exciting concepts underlying each distinct color he explores.
“Colors of The Universe” is his first release which was inspired by the idea that short words can carry deep meaning, which is why his sets are named by different colors.

The second album “Lubricated Beats” is meant to have the listener feel every possible good emotion on this earth and to amplify their attitude.
In addition to his musical career, besides being blessed with his cool and friendly character, Dogus also acts as coordinator at the creative workshop called HangarIstanbul. He plays a key role in fusing together the different groups of creative people with backgrounds in virtually every aspect of the arts.

INTERVIEW WITH A DJ

I interviewed him today, and answers are in both Turkish and English.

1. What inspired you to start DJing? DJ’lige baslama fikri nasil ortaya cikti?

As far as i know myself, I had reactions to music and when I was right our of elementary school. I started to follow some domestic DJ’s to learn more about the various kinds of music. Later in 2002, I ordered my first DJ equipment, and got a gig at a hotel . After couple of months, my passion about music had grown immensely and I started to play at some of my friends’ parties and a few local clubs. After a New Years Eve performance in 2008, I quit DJ’ing because it took much of my time and didn’t pay anything. Naturally, this separation only took 11 months  and on Oct 2008, I played at a party and after my successful performance, I started my DJ’ing career as a professional.  As I kept performing, I got multiple positive feedbacks so that I could go on with it. The positive feedback allowed me to play at many A+ parties. In 2010, a very important year, I stayed 2 months at Miami Beach, played at several clubs there, met with worldwide known DJ’s and got many ideas. Currently, I am with FG 93,7 which is the best dance music radio and community of Turkey and even worldwide.

2) What kind of clientele do you cater to? (Ex: Types of parties) Ne tarz yerlerde caliyorsun? (Orn: Nasil partiler?)

The types of people I cater to are those of the ‘upscale’ clientèle. I do mostly private parties, but I will perform as long as there is a good crowd ready to have a good time.

3) Is there a difference between the music you play for events and the music you play for yourself?

The music I play and listen to are totally different. In my performances I play, deep, funky, tech and progressive house music. The place and the crowd is very important for me when I am selecting music. For my radio sets, I always play progressive house music. On my off time, I listen to lounge and alternative music. I really enjoy music that calms and relaxes me.

4) How would you describe your DJ style (technique)? DJ tarzini (teknigini) nasil tarif edebilirsin?

Benim icin en onemli sey parca secimi. Parcalarimda vokal olmasi en belirgin ozelligim aslinda. Siradan, hic bir ozelligi olmayan parcalara setlerimde yer vermiyorum. Mixing yaparken genelde parcalarin notalarina gore secim yapiyorum ve mixing sirasinda yumusak gecisler tercih ediyorum.

To me, the most important part of my technique is to the find the right songs. Each song tells a story, and will help me tell mine as I DJ. I used a lot of vocals, which is important. I don’t do anything ordinary, and I am very selective with my music choices. When I mix, I generally base my selections on the musical notes in order to have a smooth and flawless transition.

5) How would your describe your style (fashionably)?
To me, fashion and music is one. I try to dress according to the event I am DJ’ing or attending.  But, if I am not comfortable in what I am wearing, no matter how trendy or “in” it is, I will not wear it. I like light colors and comfortable clothes with light accessories as a personal style choice.

6) Who are your fashion icons? Moda ikonlarin kimlerdir?
Acikcasi moda ikonu olarak gordugum ve takip ettigim kimse yok, kendi tarzimi kendim belirliyorum.
I don’t really follow anyone, but I personally like the way I dress. I would have to say, I am my own Icon.

7) Your 5 GO TO pieces in your wardrobe year round? Gardorobundaki olmazsa olmaz 5 sey nedir?
Yelek – Vest
Gomlek– Button down shirt
Saat – Watch
Farkli Tarzda Ayakkabilarim – Assorted Dress Sneakers
Ceket – Blazer

8 ) Tell Le Fashion Monster readers 4 things about you that may surprise us. Le Fashion Monster okuyucularini sasirtacak hakkinda 4 sey soyler misin?
I was a mountain biker till I was 18 and was the third in Turkey.
I may appear to have this active and social life as a constant, but I actually like to rest and have quality time in silence, it’s serenity for me.
1987 yilinda dogdum.
I was born in 1987, people don’t usually believe that.
Ismim Ahmet Dogus olmasina ragmen `Ahmet` pek tercih etmedigim bir isim.
My first name is really Ahmet, and my second name is Dogus, but I don’t prefer `Ahmet` that much.

9) Top 5 stores you shop at? En cok alisveris yaptigin 5 marka?

Armani Exchange
River Island
Dolce & Gabbana
Zara
And of course, H&M

10) Living in the U.S for just over a month, what did you like/dislike about the music scene in comparison to Turkey?
In Turkey, a lot of the music is constricted. People aren’t open to new songs, and they particularly only like songs that they know, they only dance to music they do know and listen to radios a lot. It’s also like that in small clubs in the U.S., but in larger and more famous venues, they try play the newest and “unreleased” tracks and people tend to be more accepting of it there.

11) Living in the US for just over a month, what did you like/dislike about the fashion in comparison to Turkey?
In Turkey it’s hard to keep up with the latest fashions, because they don’t carry all the brands. In U.S., it’s easier, and the sales and prices aren’t as inflated as they are in Turkey which makes it easier for people to follow trends and be up to date on fashion. In U.S., people dress however they want, no matter what. In Turkey, people dress for different parts of the city.

2010 Hairstyles for Men

It’s not just the ladies who worry about their hair.

2010 trends have changed throughout the year, but if you weren’t up to date on the locks that are hot, then this post is for you.

I personally think hair on a man is very important.

A well maned man is my preference.

Enough with my likes, here are the trends:

THE FRINGE

Yes, Justin Bieber has this look, but his is more to the extreme and more bowl-shaped. Fringe is the man’s “bangs”.

The great thing about this look is that you can cut the fringe to suit your face shape, and there is no right or right, ultimately.

Bottega Venetta SS 09'

You can also style your “fringe” (sounds snazzy, huh?) in a variety of ways. For example, textured fringe was huge on the Burberry Prorsum show.

For a more ‘extreme’ fringe, extra textured is the way to go. Think punk rocker, or Gucci(below).

Regardless of how you style your fringe, this look is fun, young and sexy.

CLASSIC PART

Hollywood glamour is the best way to describe this look.

It’s easy to screw it up because you want to make sure your part is even.

This look is uber chic, and looks best in polo’s or with a business suit.

It’s worth a try, take a hint from Calvin Klein runway show (below). The side part on the runway was easy, and no fuss.

THE SLICK BACK

For those who idolize Patrick Bateman…er, I mean, slicked back hair, this look is fun and can be super sexy if done right.

1. Don’t over slick. Nothing is more unattractive than being oily.

2. Tone the rest down. Business suit is best.

3. Own it. Don’t rock it if you feel uncomfortable.

Style File: Paul Rudd

Paul Rudd is one of my favorite comedic actors and it’s not bad that he is also incredibly gorgeous.

Paul Rudd has been in movies like “Clueless”,  “Role Models”, “The 40 Year Old Virgin”, “I Love You, Man”, and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” just to name a few.

He has a few more movies coming up this year including “Dinner with Schmucks”.

Style wise, he’s very hit or miss, but I applaud his effort.

The reason i’m blogging about his style is because a) he’s handsome and I’m obsessed b) he fails and succeeds, which is a great  visual example for all my readers to see.

MTV Movie Awards 2010

Not a fan of this overly matched camel colored suit. I like dark washes, or a light slack or blazer, but never both. To me this outfit is just an all around fail, but regardless, his face is still perfection.

Premiere of "American Idiot' on Broadway.

I’m liking this because it’s simply Paul’s style. The basic black suit is funked up with a plaid button down. His ophthalmic glasses add a fun nerdy yet stylish compliment to this look.

Photo shoot.

Love the top part of this look, with the dark and light contrast, but super light wash jeans should never be in the mix.

At the GQ "Men of The Year" Party

Naturally when you attend a GQ event, you better make sure you’re dressed in tip top shape. That is exactly what Paul Rudd when he left his house. Bravo. Fitted suit, and a blue button down is simple yet stylish.

Now a plethora of Paul Rudd images…just because.

Taylor Lautner: GQ July 2010

I pretty much have only one thing to say about this.

Amazing.

Cover.

On the Kanye West/Taylor Swift incident: “I was standing behind her as it was happening, and 100 percent I was sure it was staged! I thought, ‘This was something that they rehearsed.’ I was enjoying the show! But then Taylor turned around and I saw her face.”

On presenting at the Oscars with Kristen Stewart: “I would have passed out if she wasn’t there! You’re looking down and you’re talking to George Clooney, Leonardo DiCaprio-and they’re listening to you!”

On how fame hasn’t changed his life at home: “The thing I love is that my home life hasn’t changed. I still help out with the garbage. I still help out with the lawn.”

Scorching hot.

Denim 101: Slim Fit

Hey you, you have some hot…pants.

You may think girls don’t look at your jeans, but we do.

Not only are jeans a staple item in ANYONE’s wardrobe, the styles you have say a lot about you.

Trying to find a summer romance? Here are some key rules in having some hot pants that will step your game up.

Rule 1: If you wear embellished denim…go home and throw all of them away-immediately.

Rule 2: If your jeans have more rips or tears than a girl’s…throw them all away.

Rule 3: Acid wash denim- only girls can pull that off and that’s only if they’re in a short version. Don’t want to throw them away? Dye them.

Rule 4: Super baggy jeans are for ravers and skaters. Either visit a denim doctor and get them taken in, or throw them away.

Rule 5: Too much of a wash or contrast in color in denim makes it look like you puked all over yourself…or can’t do your own laundry. Either way, it looks ugly. Toss em’.

Rule 6: Super tight jeans= no. Don’t put your goods in a vacuum sealed pair of jeans. Ouch.

Here are are some good lookin’ jeans.

Oh, Kobe.

As a Lakers fan, I felt that posting Kobe’s GQ images would be…slightly cheesy and fanatical. But after long contemplation, and in honor of the playoffs, I’ve decided to go ahead and post these images.

Not only is Kobe a beast in basketball, he can be fiercely stylish as well. I’m not a fan of him as a person, based on his actions, but technically (literally, technically, 3 pointers with 1 second left? That’s skill), I am.

I love the Lakers, and I love this editorial of Kobe. Sure it’s a 2 month old cover of GQ (shot by Terry Richardson), but who cares.

I do what I want.
