Fabulous fashion for the frugal fashionista.

Pot Of Gold

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a Recessionista post, so I am happy I finally have the time to make it happen!

I am obsessing over Fall trends, and styles that I have been on the search for looks that are easily accessible for every woman!

After all, the Recessionista wouldn’t be the Recessionista if it wasn’t a fabulous fashion find for under $150.

This post is dedicated to the Fall 2010 trend; Metallic Gold.

I hope you enjoy reading as much I enjoyed finding!

Gold is the NEW Black.

With gold, you can make a statement without over-doing everything else. Although black is ALWAYS in fashion, adding a gold piece will make your look unique and stand out among the crowd.

Of course, balance is key. Here are some pieces I think every woman should own for this great Fall trend.

Metallic Leopard Skirt $8.80

This skirt will make you stand out. Pair it with a black long sleeve, chunky jewels and a cute pair of booties, and cha-ching, you’re out the door.

This BEBE dress is awesome. It’s a perfect metallic gold, and has a black base which makes the dress slightly muted for those who fear an all gold ensemble.

Head Candy: Turbans

Credit: Gold Saturn

I’m not going to lie, the previews for Sex & The City 2 really inspired me to look into turbans. At first, I laughed at the idea of wearing this trend, but then I did some research.

Turbans are popular in the Middle East, Africa, India, Central & South Asia, and Morocco, even today. They are a staple in culture and are not exactly worn to make a fashion statement.

Fashion is influenced by many factors, and cultures are definitely a major inspiration.

What makes turbans, also known as head wraps, so trendy? Well..

Prada showed them on the runway in 2007, and ever since then, many celebrities have taken the headwrap and added it to their own personal style. Kate Moss and Ashley Olsen are just a few examples. Rag & Bone and Yigal Azrouël showed them for their 2010 resort runway collection. Also this summer, with the hype of Sex and The City 2, and peeks of turban’s on the runways (for FALL 10′ too), they are ready to be part of your wardrobe.

Kate Moss

Wearing a turban adds an unexpected pop of color and volume to any outfit, no matter how bland it may be. But of course…a turban should be more or less, the centerpiece and not clash with your complete look.

The first set of turbans or “turbands” (non full-coverage), are from GoldSaturn. They range from $26-$32 and come in fun and fresh prints and subtle styles. These are probably easier to wear for the not-so-fashion forward. They are more in the form of a thick headband so you won’t actually feel like you’re wearing a turban making those who mentally are afraid, more at ease.

Here are a select few of my personal favorites:

Missoni Print Turband $32

Striped Turband $26

Pink Satin Turband $32

TIP: Make sure your turban/turband is the center of your look.

Tie-Dye Turband $26

Coral Turband $32

Studded Turband $32

TIP: Don’t be afraid to go BOLD!

Although turbans are usually scarves tied up, twisted, rolled and knotted, without patience achieving a perfect turban look can extremely agitating.

1. Find a long piece of fabric that you like that can be the turban or head wrap. Make sure the piece of fabric is at least 3 feet long and 1 foot wide. You can use the scissors to trim the fabric if it ends up too long.

2. Lay the fabric down on a flat surface. Roll it inward lengthwise.

3. Pick up the fabric and begin to wrap one side of it around your head, moving diagonally. Hold the other end in place with your other hand.

4. Roll out the fabric so it begins to flatten out with no creases and lays flat on your head. You have just completed the first wrap of the turban. Next, twist the fabric, and move it down around the forehead to create a bump or ridge.

5. Repeat this steps over and over, moving up on your head until you have run out of fabric. At this point, take the small remaining pieces and tuck them under the top of the turban or head wrap. It should rest securely and tightly. Secure it even further with bobby pins.

Full coverage turbans are a lot scarier to pull of, but with the right one, it’s easy. All you have to do is find a style that fits you best. Pick a color that suits you and then…just take a deep breath.

BCBG Turban $38

Vintage Turban $100

Vintage Turban $78

Flapper Turban by Forever 21 $7

Turban with Gold Detail $19

Mini Turban with Stones $14

Black & Gold Turban $23

Purple Turban $13

Woven Floral Turban $7

There are so many styles of turbans, it’s hard to show the true glory of sporting a turban, but these are just a few pieces that I was able to find ONLINE. Of course, scouring different boutiques is the best way to get a true understand of how to find the perfect turban for you.

A great way to find to find full covered turbans are at your local beauty stores, and they range from $7-$12 for solid jersey, and $20+ for designed or embellished turbans. Nothing beats that!

Lovely Legs

I love tights.

Leggings I don’t mind, if they are long enough to be covered by an ankle boot, but I’m over the cropped ones.

This post is dedicated to my love of tights and long leggings. I personally feel that they shouldn’t ever go out of style. They really can make or break a look, and these are just some that will definitely MAKE your outfit stand out, even if you just throw on a baggy off shoulder top and heels.

Recessionista: Wedge-Obsessed

Shoes are like candy for women.  We can’t get enough, we’re constantly wanting more and more…and sure people don’t GIVE you shoes like they do candy, but you get my point.

I am guilty of being impulsive when it comes to spending money on shoes. But unlike accessories, shoes can get a little more costly.

Lucky for me, I’m quite good at finding good deals or affordable styles for shoes.

I’m here to share some GREAT wedges that I’ve been fawning over for the Summer.

Let’s begin.

The first pair, I actually bought, they are inspired by Givenchy’s(below):

Givenchy's Wedge.

These ALDO one’s are similar, not as high when it comes to the straps, but it has the criss crossed fabric and the sexy zipper in the back.

ALDO's "NELTON" Wedge $80

Steve Madden "Fauntain" $79

I absolutely adore the “sweetness” of this wedge. The little rosette and peep toe give these wedges a very pin-up/dainty vibe. These would look super cute with a fun sundress or even add some femininity to a more leggings and t-shirt look.

Steve Madden "Feaver" $99

These super cute and versatile wedges are perfect for almost any occasion. With the studded detailing you can easily jazz up any outfit you have. Available in 4 other colors, you will stand out amongst all the other fashionista’s with this pair.

"Kanae" Wedge by Aldo $60

These wedges are for the risk-takers. Although they are really, really in style right now, the look may be hard to pull off for some. My recommendation is to rock these with a killer skinny boyfriend jean, or with tights and a cute floral dress. Are you really courageous? Above ankle harem pants and a crop top would be perfectly suited for these wedges.

Dark Romance

I’ve neglected the online shopping world lately (sorry my dear vendors), but I’m back and have found some super cute stuff.

I have fallen in love with these edgy pieces and I must own them all.

Setting aside fashion funds…now!

Ok, I’m not really, but I probably should.

Without further adieu, and my babbling (I’m totally writing this in class, by the way) here are my top picks this week:

Mesh Stripe Tank $80

I.need.this.top.now. The moment my big brown eyes laid eyes upon this glorious piece, I knew it was the one to pair perfectly with my black leggings, denim cut off shorts, and skinnies. This top is perfect. I must own it.

'Little Lover' Leggings $46

Normally I detest ruching. I hate it on dressed, hate it on shirts, but absolutely LOVE them on these leggings. All you need is a pump or bootie, an oversized t-shirt, and a pendant necklace and you’re done. Love it.

Little Lover Leggings

Fishbone Tank $116

Normally I am not one to lavish myself in a shredded t-shirt, but this one is pretty special. I love the back detailing because it’s clean and not sloppy. There’s a difference between Ke$ha shredded, and Le Fashion Monster shredded(note the above).

God's Eye Dress $194

Hello dolly! Love the ring detail in the center, love the cut, love the color. Perfect little spring/summer with heels or a wedge.

Grey Ant "Status" Sunglasses $230

These are probably my favorite glasses out there right now. Sure, they are super similar to the Lanvin’s but they’re still vastly different. The super thick frame is to die and very chic, yet still funky. A perfect combo to ANY outfit.
